European 'yes' for contact of stainless steel with food
In 2013, The Council of Europe has introduced new guidelines for metals and alloys in contact with food. On the basis of these, Team Stainless, an international organization promoting stainless steel, commissioned the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden to conduct independent research of 7 selected stainless steel species.
Tests have shown that stainless steel can be safely used in the manufacture of food-in-contact equipment and the amount of metals it releases is negligible.
Details of the studies available below (publication in English + SSN translation).
The publication unequivocally resolves the doubts that have often been raised on this subject.
